Obituary

Robert W. “Mort” Mortensen Sr., 77, of Hastings passed away September 13, 2022 with his wife by his side. Born January 9, 1945 in Spangler; he was a son of the late Chester and Pauline (Miller) Mortensen. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa A. (Owens) Mortensen, whom he married June 8, 1968 children, Robert W. Mortensen Jr (Marianne), Hastings, Melissa LaMagna (Sam), Patton, Jason W. Mortensen, Hastings; grandchildren, Samantha LaMagna, Riverhead, NY, Stephen M. Mortensen (Kathryn), N. Charleston, SC, Katelynn M. Mortensen, Somerville, SC; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sister, Lou Burskey (Jerry), Carrolltown; brother, Willard Mortensen (Betty), Dover; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mortensen served in the US Army during Vietnam. He retired from Greenwich Collieries. He was a member of the Hasting VFW Post 1586 where he served as past Commander; he served on the Sewer Authority, Borough Council as Past President and Mayor of Hastings. Mort was the Head Steward of the VFW, a member of the Fire Club and Moose Lodge and past president of the Central District Fireman’s Association. He also worked at Easly Funeral Home and Stevens Funeral Home. Family and friends will be received Saturday September 17, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.  at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Fr. Thaddeus Rettger, OSB, celebrant.
