Obituary

Stormer, Clarence “Fred”, 81, Johnstown, passed away peacefully June 26, 2025, at his home. Born August 3, 1943, to the late Clarence and Frieda (Bromund) Stormer. Preceded in death by loving wife, Sharon (Uhl) Stormer; and brothers, Weldon “Jim” and David Stormer. Survived by daughter, Milissa Stormer and husband Scott; granddaughter, Alayna Stormer; sisters, Jean Piscatello wife of the late Jim Piscatello; Ruth Allen (Don); and nieces and nephews, Jim Piscatello (Nancy); Darlene Silvestri (Steve); Travis Stormer (Jillian); Ashlee Urban (Josh); and Matt Stormer (Katie).

Fred was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. During his tour, he was tasked with servicing the boats used by Navy SEALs on their missions—work he carried out with quiet dedication. His time in Vietnam exposed him to Agent Orange, the effects of which he would bravely endure for the rest of his life, and which ultimately contributed to his passing.

He was a good man—humble, generous, and dependable. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful son and brother, trusted neighbor, skilled mechanic, and loyal friend. Fred helped others without thinking twice about it; that was simply who he was. After losing his job with the Conemaugh Blacklick Railroad, he went back to school to earn his state inspection license and further his knowledge in automotive mechanics. He worked wherever and however he could to provide for his family, never seeking recognition, only the satisfaction of doing right by those he loved. He later retired from his position as a boiler plant operator for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a role he took pride in.

Fred was particularly proud of his 1978 Ford F150, which he had recently restored and repainted. Friends and neighbors alike knew the truck well, and he looked forward to enjoying it—though sadly, he never got the chance to ride in it after the work was completed.

Fred was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Park Hill American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing slot machines, and watching YouTube videos. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, July 1st, from 4–8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd, where a service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Michael A. VanDyke, officiating. Burial and military honors performed by VFW Menoher Post 155 to follow at Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fred’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
