Obituary

George “Buddy” Demento-88, Hastings, passed away on Wednesday July 31st, 2013. His family will dearly miss him.
He was the son of the late Lena and Dominic Demento. He is survived by one brother, Richard Demento and his 3 children, daughter Marcia Demento, son Ed Demento, and daughter Valerie Demento and husband Ric Jorgensen; 5 grandchildren, Guy Torrey, Laura Everett and husband Travis, Daniel Torrey and wife Chelsea, Allison Klugh and husband Jeff, Stacey Hero and husband Jochiam; 6 great grandchildren, Willow, Audrey, Nathan, Tugg and Lilly.
George was a devoted husband to his wife Bernice for 65 years. He was always involved in the community of Hastings which he loved. He was an Army Air Force Veteran having served in WWII. He belonged to the Hastings Library Board, The Masons, and was the Commander of the local V.F.W., Board of Directors for the Union Cemetery, Sunday School Superintendent for the Hastings United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the “Alley Rats”.
George taught school for over thirty years for Hastings Elder and Cambria Heights and he later became Principal of the C.H. Middle School. He attended St. Francis, University of Pittsburgh and the University of Maine.
He opened up the world to his children which encouraged a love of traveling and nature by working as a park ranger during summers in Glacier, Gettysburg, and Acadia National Parks.
Friends will be received from 10-11 A.M. on Wednesday, August 7th at the Hastings United Methodist Church with a service to follow at 11 A.M. Pastor Linda Lacovic, officiating. Inurnment to follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family wishes donations to the Hastings Public Library.
