Obituary
POPOVICH John Walter Unk, 79, Indiana, died Aug. 9, 2011. Born Feb. 2, 1932, in Windber, son of the late John and Rose (Deitz) Popovich. Preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Stella, Stanley, Frank, Helen, Mary, Bill, Walter, Ed, Joseph and John. Survived by wife, Beverly (Miller) Popovich, Indiana, Pa.; son, John Popovich, and wife, Christine, Indiana; daughter, Tammy Slater, and husband, Mark, Sterling, Va.; grandsons, Matthew and Luke Popovich; Michael Slater; and Christopher Slater, and wife, Liz; great-granddaughter, Allison Elizabeth; and sister, Nellie Rawski, Johnstown. John worked as a carpenter for Richards Group in Northern Virginia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korean War. Member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, and Catholic War Vets. John enjoyed gardening and hunting. Friends received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Very Rev. Leonard E. Voytek, VF, officiating. Committal, St. John Cantius Cemetery, Windber. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice or Two Lick Valley Area Senior Center, 450 Franklin St., Clymer, Pa. 15728.
