Obituary

Fleckenstein, (Hazel) LaRue, Graden , 100, died May 23, 2013 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. Born August 19, 1912 in Vandergrift, PA; daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Pearl (Carson) Graden. Preceded in death by husband, Edward William Fleckenstein, sister Ethelda Graden and Kenneth Graden.

Survived by daughter, Kathryn F. Jewell, and grandson, Kent Edward Jewell both of Charleston, WV; and granddaughter Karen Lee Jewell of Bloomington IN. Also survived by her brother’s children Heny E Graden and Carol Graden Shoemaker.

LaRue graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BS in teaching and later a master’s degree in guidance. She taught at several PA junior high schools and was a guidance counselor at Westmont Hilltop Junior High School from 1960 to 1977. She loved to travel and was active in service to her church and community. She was remembered fondly by former students and colleagues at her 100th birthday party.

She married Edward William (Fleck) Fleckenstein in 1935 and they enjoyed 54 years together in Johnstown.

Private burial at Harkleroad Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
