Obituary
Marcinek, Philip A., 66, Lower Yoder Twp., died unexpectedly May 12, 2012 at Windber Medical Center. Born October 20, 1945 in Johnstown, son of the late Martin J. and Magdalene (Cibrin) Marcinek.
Preceded in death by brother Martin S. Marcinek.
Survived by loving wife of 44 years, Rita Rose (Buhek) Marcinek, Johnstown; sister Ethel, married to Anthony Morihlatko, Johnstown; sisters-in-law, Lois Marcinek, Windsor Locks, Ct. and Evelyn Buhek, Selkirk, NY; friend Jack Ginett, Selkirk, NY; brother-in-law, Mark Buhek and wife Cathy (Kuckenbrod), Johnstown and aunt and uncle, Andrew and Margaret Jarabak, Johnstown. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Phil was a teacher at Westmont Hilltop School District and Windber Area High School; a program director for WJAC-TV; he worked for the PA Unemployment office before returning to his teaching career. He taught social studies; history; economics and geography and started a Video Club at Windber High School that was comparable to any broadcast television station.
He was an advisor for Windber’s Student Counsel and taught college courses to students preparing to enter college. Phil served as finance manager and director of Religious Education at the former St Stephen’s Catholic Church and DRE at the new Resurrection Roman Catholic Parish.
He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era as a radioman. In 1997, he co-founded, with his wife, Rita, the non-profit organization, Victims Remembered Inc., giving help to crime victims and grieving families. Phil enjoyed amateur radio; watching professional sports on TV; reading and most of all enjoying time together with his wife, Rita. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and would have retired from Windber High School after this year. He was very humorous and enjoyed using it on his students.
At the request of the family, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a memorial service on May 21st at 7pm at Resurrection Church. Fr Alan Thomas, officiating. Donations may be made in Phil’s memory to Victims Remembered Inc., 243 Judith Dr. Johnstown PA 15905 or a charity of your choice.
