Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Wilda I. (Rager) Spaugy and her beloved husband of 69 years, Bernard (Bert) B. Spaugy. Bernard passed away on June 12, 2025, and Wilda followed him on June 13, 2025. Both were residents of Johnstown.

Wilda was born on May 7, 1931, to Elmer and Catherine (Rummel) Rager. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 12 siblings. Bernard was born on August 2, 1932, to Harold Spaugy and Virginia (Huey) Springer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jackie Gabrielli; and his nephew, Dennis Shira.

Wilda and Bernard are survived by their sons, Jeffrey and David Spaugy; grandchildren, Missy Spaugy, Sara Spaugy, Dallen (Taryn) Spaugy, Travis Spaugy; and great-grandchildren, Lexi Rogers, Jordan Hoyt, Landon Jeske, Kylee Rogers, Savannah Spaugy, and Emilia Spaugy. Extended family Kalynn Kerekes and Tracey Jeske.

Bernard is additionally survived by his sister, Peggy Sherman; brothers, William and Donald Springer; and his beloved niece, Mary Shira. Both are survived by other cherished nieces, nephews and extended family. They are also lovingly remembered by their niece Diane, husband John Waggle, and their family.

Bernard proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy as an E3 during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and gardening. Wilda loved the comfort and peace of home. Both found joy in the simple things and time spent with loved ones. Above all, both Wilda and Bernard treasured time with their sons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in their memory to Bowserdale United Methodist Church, 892 Cooper Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15906, where they were devoted members.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA 15902. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2025, also at Hindman Funeral Homes. Wilda and Bernard will be laid to rest together at Benshoff Hill Cemetery.
