Obituary

Piemonte, Carole Lee (Betts), 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at Aventura Bay Place in St. Petersburg, FL. Carole was born April 6,1942 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of the late Willis and Augusta (Montag) Betts. She graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1960 and worked as a telephone switchboard supervisor, until her marriage to Pete Piemonte in 1968. Together they raised three children. From an early age, Carole had a love for animals, nature, and the outdoors. She grew up fishing and hunting with her father and grandfather and later enjoyed summer camping trips to Prince Gallitzin State Park with her husband, children and friends. Her passion for animals inspired her to open Bubbles & Chirps Pet House, where she shared her knowledge and love for fish, birds and pets of all kinds with her customers. She and Pete ran the shop until retirement in 1998, and moved to Seminole, FL in 2013 to be closer to family. She was a fun-loving and devoted “Grandma Carole” who cherished time spent with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories with them. She was also a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her mother, Gussie, through her long battle with Alzheimer’s; and later faced her own 15-year journey with the disease. Carole was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Pete; her parents, Willis and Augusta; her uncle, Donald Betts; her brother, William Betts; and her daughter, Marie Piemonte. She is survived by her children, Joseph (Tami) Piemonte of MT, and Theresa Piemonte of FL; four grandchildren, Amanda Reighard and Steven Reighard of FL, Ian Strawn of AZ, and Wesley Strawn of PA; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey, Luke, Leo and Lana of FL, Jackson and Iris of AZ, Lucy and Amelia of PA; and cousin, Don Betts. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 11:30 am on Saturday, June 14th at Hindman Funeral Home, 1512 Frankstown Road in Johnstown, followed by a short service. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, where both Carole and Pete will be laid to rest.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carole’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Cure Alzheimer’s Fund. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
