Obituary

Barber, Doris I., passed from this life March 15, 2024. Born November 4, 1931, in Johnstown, daughter of Fred Zimmerman and Irene (White) Statler. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 52 years, J.D. Barber; brothers, Paul and infant Fred E. Zimmerman; son, James; and grandson, Ian “Beau” Mardis. Also preceded by her great-grandmother, Ida Edmonds, with whom she lived as a child and again during some of her adult years. Survived by daughter, Jill, widow of John Marsh, Johnstown; son, Jay (Nicole) Richfield, North Carolina; grandchildren, Christian Smith (Raine), League City, TX; Emily Young (Albert), Johnstown; Cody Mardis; Kasay Mardis (Rachel), all of Windber; Jayson Barber (Amanda); and Julie Peterson, all of North Carolina; great grandchildren, Shannon, Christian Jr., Benjamin, Preston (Jewel), Maxwell, Cyrus, Lucian, Mya, Brandon, Clark, Emmett, David, and Abram; and great great grandchildren, Ella Rose, Otto, Elaine, and Eleanor. Doris attended Pasco-Hernando College and University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. She held a real estate license and was employed in mortgage banking in Florida and Johnstown. She began playing piano at 8 years of age and enjoyed playing almost daily throughout her life. An avid reader, a student of the Bible, she held a deep faith in Jesus Christ. She loved her family and told them often and was greatly loved by them. A memorial service to be held at a later date.
