Obituary

Podrasky, Edward F., 89, Johnstown, died peacefully December 27, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born July 20, 1929 in Johnstown. Son of the late Frank W. and Elizabeth M. (Zelinko) Podrasky. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine M. (Bane) Podrasky; and his brother Carl J. Podrasky. Survived by children, Kenneth Podrasky, VA, and Carl Podrasky, GA; grandchildren, Steven and Elizabeth Podrasky; and numerous members of extended family. He was a devout Roman Catholic. Edward was called to active duty after graduating from the Johnstown High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served in combat during the Korean War as a combat engineer. He re-enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve serving as an Air Force Academy Liaison Officer Coordinator (LOC) in the Cambria, Somerset, and Bedford county areas. Edward received a Bachelor degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s degree in science and education from the Penn State University, and a Doctorate in Education also from Penn State. He taught mathematics in the Greater Johnstown School District and physics in the State College Area School District. He served as an assistant Principal in the Laurel Valley School District before being elected to a three year term as Superintendent of the Penn Cambria school district circa 1975. Edward moved his family to the Washington D.C. area in 1978 in his last professional position at the Department of Education where he coordinated Federal funding to State’s school systems adversely affected by natural disasters. He retired from the Federal government in 1985. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave.. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m.. at St Benedict Church, 2310 Bedford St. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
