Obituary

Smajda, John S., 83, Johnstown, died May 30, 2010 at Laurelwood Care Center. Born October 10, 1926 in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Tomasko) Smajda. Preceded in death by 1st wife, Madaline Vahaly; 2nd wife, Gladys Farabaugh; son Gregory Smajda and 2 brothers.

Survived by daughter Johanna Maryac, North Huntington; brother Michael Smajda, Harrisburg and grandchildren, Matthew Smajda and Samantha Maryac. Also survived by sister-in-law Joan Smajda, Johnstown and great-granddaughter Stephanie Smajda.

John was a retired supervisor for Bethlehem Steel Corp, a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, life member of the Catholic War Vets, member of the VFW Menoher Post 155 and a sergeant in the Air Force serving in the Phillipines.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday at 1pm at St. Therese Catholic Church, Fr. Bernard Karmonocky, officiating.
