Obituary

Strayer, Margaret L. (Daly), of Penn Run passed away in her sleep at home on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at age 88. Margaret was born on Daly Mountain in Somerset County. Upon her father’s passing when she was 10, she moved with her mother and siblings to Johnstown. She married (and later divorced) Roy Strayer of Johnstown, with whom she had nine children. Margaret and Roy purchased a farm near Summerhill in the 1950s, which she ran until her retirement in 2000. An excellent cook, Margaret also worked at various restaurants in the area throughout her life. Known as “Grandma Strayer” by every child she met, she was an honest, smart and hard-working woman with a wry sense of humor who loved children, animals and flowers. Margaret is survived by all nine of her children, all but one of her 23 grandchildren, and her nearly 50 great- and great-great grandchildren. Margaret’s ashes will be spread on Daly Mountain by her family this fall. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave.
