Obituary

Popovnak, Margaret Rose, 89, Mineral Point, passed away peacefully May 2, 2025, at Arbutus Park Manor. Born October 25, 1935, to the late Stephen and Anna (Vince) Kurcis. Preceded in death by husband, James Popovnak; daughter, Victoria Hecker; grandsons, Jacob Hale and Daniel Popovnak; and siblings, Mary, Steve, Bernice, and Barbara. Survived by children, Rosemarie Arcurio (Frank); James Popovnak (Lisa); Michael Popovnak; Margaret Polenik (Daniel); son-in-law, Andrew Hecker; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Eileen (James); and JoAnn. Margaret was a past president of the William Penn Association and for many years was a member of the Legion of Mary. She loved her Hungarian ethnicity and thoroughly enjoyed cooking Hungarian meals. Every Sunday she would prepare her homemade Hungarian chicken noodle soup for her family. Margaret was a devoted mother and grandmother, who deeply loved her family. A special thank you to the staff of Senior Life, Arbutus, Penn Hospice and Windber Hospice for the compassionate care they provided. Family will receive friends Monday May 12th from 12:30 p.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 1 p.m. at St. Benedict Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windber Hospice, St. Benedict Church, or Carmelite Monastery (in Loretto).
