Obituary

Matolyak, Michael Jr., 71, of Johnstown, fell asleep in the Lord on March 11, 2024. Born October 7, 1952, son of the late Michael Sr. and Mary Jane (Bacha) Matolyak. Preceded in death by parents and parents-in-law, Kenneth and Violet Mallison. Survived by loving wife of 39 years, Joye (Mallison) Matolyak; daughters, Courtney and Lindsay (AJ Ferraz), of Pittsburgh; grandson, Felix; sisters, Marian Leverknight, of Florida, and Marlene Matolyak; sister-in-law, Krista Everage (John), of California; and brothers-in-law, Kevin Mallison, of Michigan, and Eric Mallison (Kathryn), of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael was a 1970 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School. He later earned both a BS and a ME degree in Psychology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Michael was a member of ARRL and PSEA, and a founding member of Sigma Chi chapter. He was employed at the Commonwealth Technical Institute in various roles, including IT and telecommunications, as well as creating and instructing the Computer/IT course. Michael received a Governor’s Award for technological advancement. Amateur radio operator, KA3-BJA signing off. Michael was a lifetime member and longtime auditor of Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Friends will be received at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., on March 14th from 5-8 P.M.  Panachida at 5:30P.M. A funeral service will be held on March 15th at 11 A.M. at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, 312 Garfield St., Johnstown, with Very Reverend Protopresbyter Robert A. Buczak celebrant. Burial will follow at Christ the Saviour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
