Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Fetzer. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara (Paul) Mickle. Devoted and hands-on father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to: children, Jeffrey (Deborah Austin), Lori (Larry Lechak), Kristen (Nate Manges), and Stacy (Joel Shumaker); grandchildren, Jonathan Mickle (Angela), Benjamin Mickle, Jena Manges (Andy Tully), Lindsay Manges (Andrew Hess), Eli Manges (Jenna), Luke Shumaker (Kayt), Cara Shumaker (Josh Neil), and Cade Shumaker; great-grandchildren, Jude and Noah Mickle; Aaron, Tyler, and Derek Tully; Eliza and Miles Hess; Leif and Penelope Shumaker; Elisabeth Neil. Allen was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he served in many roles, including head usher, and spent countless hours lending a hand with an open heart wherever he was needed. Loved bicycling, especially during winter trips to Florida. Always willing to have fun with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including providing Oscar cakes, driver-training, bicycling, vacationing, and just plain hanging out. He worked as a paperboy, gas station attendant, painter, mattress factory foreman, and tire repairman, before going to work and retiring from Galliker’s Dairy. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023, at Bethany Church, 112 Leventry Road, Johnstown. Special thanks to Windber Hospice staff, Mike who always made him laugh and Katie with her fun stories, as well as special caregivers, Judy and Sandy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Church.
