Gethers, Charles Edward “Ed”, entered into forever December 25, 2018. Born, the youngest of 10 children, on February 17, 1947 to William Gethers Sr. and Rose (Banks) Gethers – Williams, in Johnstown, PA. Ed is preceded in death by parents; infant brother, Curtis; brothers, William Gethers, Jr.; Chester Glenn Gethers; and sisters, Ethel Shipman; Juanita Hill; and Phyllis Hardison. Ed is also preceded in death by step-father, John Williams Sr.; step-brothers, Fred and John Williams Jr.; and step-sister, Martha Williams. Ed leaves behind sisters, Glenna Bennett and Linda Brandon, both of Johnstown, PA; brother, Harold Dean Gethers (Patricia) of Ocala, FL; step-sister, Rossie Baxter-Gray of Newark, NJ; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ed was a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School and attended The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Specialist during the Vietnam conflict. He was a former Trustee at First Cambria A.M.E. Zion Church, former Secretary of Johnstown Branch N.A.A.C .P, and former Board Member of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. Although he was a member of First Cambria A.M.E. Zion Church, 409 Haynes Street, he most recently attended Christ Centered Community Church, 531 Somerset Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Charles’ “Ed’s” memory, to the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, 500 Galleria Drive, Ste. 284, Johnstown, Pa 15904. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Rev. Sylvia King, officiating.
