Koontz, Clair F. Sr., 94, Hastings, went to be with Lord on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home.
Born April 8, 1927, in Elder Twp, PA; he was a son of the late David and Bernadette (Lenz) Koontz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary F. (Ott) Koontz; his son, Brian Koontz, brothers, David J. Koontz, and Alfred “Ralph” Kootnz.
Survived by son, Clair F. “Skip” Koontz Jr., grandchildren, Joan Quinn (Matthew), and Aaron Koontz, great grandson, Bennett Matthew Quinn, brother, Allen Koontz; sister, Deloris Dillon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Clair served in the US Army as a Corporal during WWII in Germany. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings VFW, where he served at Past Post Commander and District Commander. He was a coalminer nearly 40 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing guitar with “The Remanence” Blue grass and Country Western Band at many local nursing homes.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday October 17, 2021, from 2 p.m. 7 p.m. at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver St., Hastings, PA 16646. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on October 18, 2021, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings. Father Thaddeus Rettger O.S.B. Officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
