Cook, James W., 71, Johnstown, passed away peacefully October 29, 2022, at Windber Hospice after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born September 21, 1951, in Johnstown. Son of the late Clair and Leah (Holsopple) Cook. Preceded in death by parents; mother-in-law, Imogene (Haire) Wagner; father-in-law, Everett Wagner; and sister-in-law, Dorothy “Cindy” Wagner. Survived by wife, Merilee (Wagner), with whom he recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Also survived by son, Troy and daughter-in-law Kimberly (Ream); brother-in-law, Daryl Wagner and Dottie; nephew, Scott and Cheryl; and great nephew, Jacob Wagner. Member of Roxbury St. Paul United Methodist Church. Was a meat-cutter by trade, managing several grocery store meat departments throughout his career. Johnstown hockey enthusiast including the Tomahawks, Chiefs, and Jets. NASCAR fan and memorabilia collector. Enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife and their friends. Loved working on cars, especially the family’s Fords. Friends will be received November 5th from 12 p.m. until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd. Interment to follow at Richland Cemetery. Pastor Valerie Mize, officiating. The family would like to send their thanks and appreciation for the compassion and care given by the staff of Windber Hospice.
