Batey, Robert A., 78, Johnstown, passed away Jan. 26, 2016 at Laurelwood Care Center. Born Oct. 23, 1937 to the late Anthony J. and Isabell (Algire) Batey. Followed in death by one day, brother, Richard D. Batey, Seguin, TX. Survived by loving wife, Linda (Phillips); children; David A. Batey, (Lori), San Diego, CA; Melissa S. Sabol, (Michael), Richland; Jennifer M. Sepic, (John), Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Grace and Jesse Batey; Lucas and Jacob Sabol; niece, Teresa Jerome and great-nieces, Celina and Elena. Robert graduated from Westmont Upper Yoder High School in 1955. He worked at Westmont Borough from 1956 until 1962. He then went on to be a full time police radio dispatcher and full time fireman at the old station on Dartmouth Ave., later becoming Fire Chief. Robert moved on to the Public Works Dept. He retired in April 2008 after many years as the Public Works Director and a combined 50+ years working for Westmont Borough. Robert served 6 years in the U.S. Army National Guard, being discharged in Oct. 1966 as a Sgt. E-5. Robert was a member of Westmont Presbyterian Church and attended United Church of Christ in Shanksville when visiting his Lake Stonycreek cabin. He was also a member of the Elks, the Brownstown Fireman’s Club, the Amslo Social Club and a previous member of the Johnstown Seafood Club. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time at his cabin on Lake Stonycreek. He was loved and will be missed by many. Friends will be received Fri. Jan. 29 from 3-7 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., where a service will be held Sat. Jan 30 at 11 a.m., Rev. Craig Miller, officiating. Entombment at Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. “A chapter complete. A page turned. A life well lived.
