Holtz, William J. 92, Hastings, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Born April 1st, 1929, in Hastings, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew and Marie (Donahue) Holtz. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jean Marie Holtz, his son Jeff, his daughter Julie, brothers Patrick and wife Mae, Alan and wife Eleanor. He is survived by brothers John and his wife Judy, Father Vernon Holtz, O.S.B, sister Virginia, and his children, Beth Biernesser, Curtis Holtz and wife Christine, Bill Holtz and his wife Pam, Lyn Holtz and his wife Sandra, and eight grandchildren, Ashley and Kelsey Biernesser, Tyler, Samantha, Rachel, Wes Holtz, and Cooper and Kelly Holtz.

Bill was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a graduate of Indiana University of PA (IUP). Bill ran the family coal mine until 1970, worked in the steel mill in Johnstown, prepared taxes for many in Hastings, and was Head of the Business Department during his 33-year teaching career at Portage Area High School.  An avid member of the community, he served on the Hastings Area Sewage Authority for 47 years, only stepping down to care for his ailing wife.  He was also the Present of the Hastings Youth association. For years he enjoyed bowling, little league games with his kids playing, and being a part of building the tennis courts, the basketball courts and baseball fields, the Hastings Ambulance building, and helping set up many St. Bernard Church Picnics. Wherever there was work to be done to benefit and serve the community, you would find Bill.

Friends will be received from 5-8:30 pm Thursday, July 15th at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 333 Beaver Street, Hastings.

Friends will be received Friday, July 16th  from 10 am to time of service at 11 am at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Fr. Thaddeus Rettger, OSB, celebrant. A reception will be held following the mass at the Cambrian Hills Country Club, Hastings, PA.

Those who wish may make a memorial donation to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or the Hastings Area Industrial Development Association.
