Obituary

Buck, Kenneth George, 83, Johnstown, passed away February 13, 2024, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, born September 29, 1940, in Johnstown, son of Robert Kenneth and Velma Catherine (Holzapfel) Buck. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Linda Jean (Buck) McDermott; and nephew, Bryon McDermott. Survived by sister, Sharlene Joyce Buck; nieces, Lisa (McDermott) Bennett, Florida; Kimberly (Ribaric) Dorrier, Virginia; nephews, Thomas McDermott, Florida; Ronald A. Ribaric Jr., Johnstown; Robert K. Ribaric, South Carolina; and several great nieces and nephews.

As a young man, Ken was an explorer in the Boy Scouts, Troop 228, and attended the Belmont E.U.B. Church. He went to Greater Johnstown High School, Class of ’58-’59. Ken was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Infantry, serving in Europe and East Asia 1961 – 1967, during the Cold War and the Vietnam War Era. While in the Army, Ken became a skydiver. After being honorably discharged, he worked at Bethlehem Steel Shipyard in Sparrows Point, Maryland. In Johnstown Ken worked as a home improvement contractor and subcontractor.

Ken was a lifetime member of the following: Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Rifle Association, Harley Owners Group, and the American Motorcyclist Association. He was a long-time member of the Richland American Legion Post 0849 and the Tire Hill Rod and Gun Club, and a 10-year member of Cambria County A.B.A.T.E. Ken was one of the founding members and Executive President of the Brotherhood of Veterans motorcycle club. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, archery, and riding his Harley. He also was a knife collector. Ken was a patriot and believed that everyone should serve in our armed forces if physically able. He also strongly believed in the 2nd Amendment in our Bill of Rights.

A Celebration of Life and military honors to be held at a later date. Interment to follow at Richland Cemetery.
